Don't tell my Alexa but I think Mulberry's most Rock'n'Roll bag is the Roxanne. The leather biker leather jacket of all bags. If she had a drink it would be a Jack Daniels & Coke. And you definitely wouldn't want to mess with her. Anyway, I digress slightly but I do have a point. Chunky, solid, no unnecessary frilly bits, her style is unapologetically rustic, yet she possesses that certain kind of je ne sais quoi that exudes confidence and elegance, all with a bit of comfort thrown in. If you're after a bag that is robust and versatile, she could just be the girl for you. A real investment piece, whose leather will only get more beautiful with use and age - especially if you manage to find one in Darwin.
The only downside I could find is the weight, but with a wide strap or if you carry her in your hand, not really an issue. And because I don't want to finish on a downer - guess whose Samorga fits perfectly? ;)
Whereas I am still on the fence on whether I prefer my Alexa a bit more slouchy, i.e. without an insert that gives the bag structure, I definitely want a big workbag such as my Heritage Bayswater, to be fairly boxy. If I carry any documents, I wouldn't want them to get crumpled and I'd probably expect to be able to slide in a laptop without having to uncrumple the bag first.
So far, I haven't owned a standard Baywater (yet) but from what I know, the Heritage Bayswaters are much more slouchy. I therefore ordered a standard Bayswater-sized Samorga insert (the colour is dune by the way), which fitted quite well into my Fudge Heritage Bayswater and achieved the desired boxy shape as well as gaining useful compartments inside the bag, which help to organise its contents.
Thinking about whether you could get away with acquiring a new (or pre-loved) Mulberry and passing it off using it as a baby bag? Well, I've put my work horse, a black Soft Buffalo Regular Alexa, to the test. See how I got on!
The Mulberry Alexa is notoriously slouchy - in fact, that's why so many people like it. It gives it this real boho/rock chick/ask if I care feel and means it's a bag that takes you from work to play effortlessly. However, it also means that if it's not very full, it's rather like a fabric bag and your items tumble all over each other.
This is were the lovely people from SAMORGA come in. Their bag inserts do not only provide different pockets for all your bits and bobs but the fairly rigid felt they are made from, give your bag structure and rigidity. So, with much further ado, here a video on receiving my SAMORGA insert for my Mulberry Alexa and having a first play.
