Clash or Match?

Print, print and more print this week: two outfits of uni-coloured tops with print skirts and two where I'm matching different prints on top and bottom. I always think the uni t-shirt is a bit of a cop out and love it when clashing prints works - but it doesn't always...

Looking at the weather today, yesterday may well have been the last day of summer... I'm glad I wore something light and bright!
T-shirt: H & M
Skirt and cardigan: Boden
Shoes: Zara

Give me summer... on a skirt! You can't gimmick better than hydrangeas - I just love them! T-shirt: Warehouse
Cardigan and skirt: Boden

Boden retro print skirt with uni t-shirt
Yep, I still post outfits every now and then... (You're forgiven if you thought I'd moved onto flowers.) one of my favourite Boden prints!

Shoes: Dune Shoes

Not sure about this one - maybe I just crave pretty colour too much at the moment to compensate for the lack of summer... The short must have been in my wardrobe for at least a decade, probably more like 15 years - and I've never worn it. I decided it now either works or has to go. It's still not off the hook - either way. Lol.

Leopard Print Week

You know that feeling when you try on a (potential) new item of clothing - and it makes you look lumpy and horrible. Or short. Or skinny or fat or pale or... weird... Happens quite often to me. But every now and then you try on something and (after a bit of pulling and prodding) it just works. That's how I felt in this new Boden dress: super flattering, making me look more ladylike than I've ever felt. And a cool pattern too. Fab. So that was the good bit last week. The bad bit (clothes-wise) was when I remembered how much I miss wearing heels...

Boden leopard print dress
Love my new dress from Boden, but it has a tricky neckline and I was a bit worried that I couldn't layer anything (and I'm always cold). Glad I still have this Warehouse jacket (must be about 10 years old). Haven't figured out how to wear a necklace with said neckline - but I don't think it needs it?

Sometimes I mourn the fact that I can no longer wear heels. Like when pairing a skirt with shoes is *so* much easier if you have heels at your disposal. Ok, so the skirt worked quite well with pointy flats (last week) but it was due to rain and I didn't want to risk wrecking the suede. I came home, did my usual pic and, before I changed into my home clobber, just quickly put on a pair of heels that have been crying in the back of my wardrobe. Instant lift. *sigh*

Issa dress
That picture doesn't do any justice to that dress, which is nigh on magic: it gives me a waist and manages to be fairly low cut without being too revealing to wear at the office.

Mr G says he doesn't like the jumper as "it looks like something from the 70s". I'd say 80s myself and I do like it. :)

And August Is Over

So last week was the last week of August. Let's see how long I can continue to wear some of my summer-ish outfits before it gets too autumnal (=cold & rainy).

Colour Splash!

The sun was out this morning so I decided it's time for another step into the springlike direction. Out came my fairly recently acquired Versace dress. With it still being cold in the morning, boots and tights were a must but I think that the dark within the print tied this together nicely.

Golden Casual

I decided that using the title "what I wore today" is getting a bit too monotonous. I shall continue to tag the posts accordingly but now come up with descriptive and/or entertaining titles. No pressure then.

As in many offices, ours operates a "dress down Friday" policy, i.e. even the non-creative/IT/... are allowed to wear denim on said day. I am not hugely into wearing jeans, probably because I practically used to live in them and now find this option a bit... dull.

Please don't shout at me.

I know, there are skinnies, bellbottoms, bootcut, boyfriend, straightleg... And then there are all the different washes: used, dark indigo, black, white, coloured and (let's not forget since I am German) stonewashed. Of course I do wear jeans, I probably have about 10 pairs but as a general rule, I don't tend to enjoy outfits containing an ordinary pair of jeans as much as those containing other items of clothing.

Anyway, I thought I'd use the denim-carte-blanche as a sign to dig out my Warehouse frayed denim skirt, which I must have had in my wardrobe for about 6 years.  It's still pretty cold and windy out there, so I am wearing some trusty 40 deniers and my boots as well as a thin, longsleeved top. I paired the skirt with a top from Tesco (just love that print and a bit of a bargain at £12) and a H&M jumper made up of, what can only be described as a golden flecked knit.

What I wore today

Today I wore one of my favourite dresses. It's by Hoss Intropia, a Spanish label, which I discovered a while ago and who recently (hallelujah) opened an eShop. This dress channels the "sofa print" trend and I think it has a bit of a 60s vibe going one. As it's still not even near spring-temperature-like, I wore a thin longsleeve top underneath.

Somebody was poking fun at the fact that
a) I cut off/cover my face in my photos and
b) always cross my legs in them, too.

a) Well, not only is it pretty awkward taking pictures of yourself in a mirror (which obviously also means, no flash), I am also not a big fan of being in photographs and am trying to get over that awkwardness myself.
b) dto awkwardness... or I could just pass it off as my signature thing.

As my camera is covering part of the dress, two full body shots.

Seasonal Footwear

For day-to-day footwear, I go to flats. Running around in the office, through shops, airports etc. means, I just can't bear to be in heels all day. Everynow and then, I treat myself to a heel-day but when I buy any clothes, I usually make sure they go with flats.  During the winter, I pretty much live in my flat boots.

I usually have got about 5 pairs on the go and at the moment these are:

low charcoal KGs with fake fur lining,

black DocMartens lookalikes from Dune (the real ones never fitted me properly),

black LK Bennett knee-highs,

brown suede M&S slouchy boots with straps (a very distant Vivienne Westwood, rip-off, I guess),

very warm, sheepskin-lined knee-highs for when it's really cold (I actually bought them in Oslo, where it was very, very cold in December 2011!).

These boots get paired - or juxtaposed - with pretty much everything in my wardrobe and as I usually wear dresses or skirts that end above the knee, I think this works just fine.

Once spring is in the air though, I can't wait to get back to some more colourful footwear. Where boots are my go-to style for autumn/winter, ballerinas are my it's-gonna-be-sunny-out choice.

Ready for the season, I have dug out some trusty pairs and topped up with a couple of new acquisitions.

From top left, clockwise:
H&M (SS12, £7.99)
H&M (SS12, £7.99)
Zara (SS11, ca. £30)
Zara (SS11, ca. £30)
Zara (SS11, ca. £30)
Dune (SS11, ca. £40)

H&M actually have a fantastic selection at the moment and I am currently tempted by a pair with a on-trend metallic toe-cap:

at £14.99 not too difficult a buying decision

I am actually also looking for a pair of spring/summer brogues - but that's really another story...
