Old Skirt, New Outfit

Part 2 of my catchup. And another item that has been hanging in my wardrobe, pretty much unloved and close to being popped into the charity bag: this black pleather skirt has received a new lease of life by being teamed with this monochrome top and (another 'old' find) necklace duo.

Old stuff - new combo. I almost got rid of the skirt and the necklaces must be about 18 years old! Just goes to show that I shouldn't get rid of anything. Maybe I'll KonMari in my next life. *sigh*
Top & skirt: Zara
Necklaces: (I think) Accessorize
Boots: Office

Beetlejuice pants! I think so far I had only worn them with sweatshirts, so this feels reasonably 'dressed up'.
Shirt: La Redoute
Jeans & necklace: Zara
Jacket: Warehouse
Trainers: Converse

Bit of a leftover from a few days ago but I didn't feel very well the last couple of days and pretty much just hid under my duvet...
Dress: Boden
Cardigan: H&M
Boots: Hallhuber
Necklace: Stella & Dot

Still felt under the weather yesterday - can you tell? I felt like a right numpty with my jeans that are a tad too short. At least you can't see my pink socks in the pic. Just to show that I have off days too!

Old Jacket, New Favourite

Outfit roundup a on Tuesday?! Due to a couple of busy weeks and then having been on holiday, I'm totally behind. My week in Germany involved a lot of lounging around and little sartorial action, so below the outfits from a couple of weeks ago. If I can find the time tomorrow, I'll get us up to date.

A couple of future faves: My old, yet newly discovered tweed jacket is finally being worn - and I really love it. (Do you do that? Discover items in your wardrobe that you almost discarded and fall in love with them?) Oh, and something actually new: that cosy Tesco jumper is going to get some repeat wears this winter!

I thought this outfit might be a pattern too far but I think it actually worked - and I really enjoyed wearing it! The jacket must be about 15 years old and almost every year I've held it up and thought "need to get rid of this, I never wear it" - and then hung it straight back into my wardrobe. It's a tricky one, as it's quite warm but not warm enough for proper outer wear (plus, it has elbow length sleeves and is cropped). But I thought I'd start wearing it kind of like a cardigan or blazer and voilĂ , it's now officially a keeper!
Blouse & boots: Zara
Skirt: Boden
Jacket: River Island

I normally don't do outerwear shots.
1. I do my ootd pic when I get home in the evening, after I dropped bag and coat downstairs and before I get changed into something that doesn't mind if I crawl around the floor building lego.
2. I usually wear the same coat all season: a warm one in winter, a thinner one when it's warmer. Both hooded and waterproof, as I commute by train and walk bits in between. I also can't be bothered carrying an umbrella. (God knows why I have a wardrobe full of coats...) This was a day though when it was cold with no chance of rain so I dug out my classic grey coat - and I thought I'd share this. :)
Jumper: Tesco
Jeans: Next
Trainers & coat: Zara
Scarf: C&A

This is what happens when I take my 'outfit of the day' photo after coming home (no way would I have time to do this in the morning!). Little M will insist in being in a couple of pics and then we have to pose so that he "wears" my clothes. I have reams of those pics.
Rubbish quality - but I can't quite get myself to delete them.
Jumper: Zara
Skirt: Mango
Trainers: Kurt Geiger

At the weekend you'll usually find me in jeans, mainly because I will either be cleaning/tidying/pottering or climbing around hills/playgrounds/rocks. On Saturday I dragged Mr G and little M to Cheshire Oaks and (also due to the wet weather: nothing worse than jeans soaking up rain water) ended up in a dress. :)
By the way: check out here what Mulberry had in stock!

Transitional Spring Dresses

Last week felt rather autumnal and I quickly moved from sheer tights into opaques. Less separates than usual with 3 dresses in there and a bit of a mixed bag. My favourite is definitely that green Mango dress - though my clumsiness does not always work with the fluted sleeves...

Mango dress with fluted sleeves
Channeling my inner Robin Hood - or would that be Maid Marian...? (The colour of this dress is such a gorgeous green, unfortunately it's completely washed out on the detail pic.) Dress: Mango
Boots: Marks and Spencer
Necklace: Olia Jewellery

Grey marl sweater dress from Next
It doesn't feel like June, does it? Rainy and windy and chilly. A sweater dress for a bit of warmth and comfort. In June. *sigh*
Dress: Next
Boots: Marks and Spencer
Necklace: I think it's from Accessorize

Boden retro print dress
Just a hint of red ;) I've had this Boden dress for years and the silk fabric has a few creases that simply won't come out but I love the pattern and thought it's time it got an outing! Dress: Boden
Boots: Zara
Necklace: Sainsbury's

Boden Richmond pencil skirt
Where's the summer?! Ok, I'd settle for spring. But this windy and rainy weather has more of October than June?! Back in my opaques for a bit of warmth, I'm attempting to cheer this outfit from autumn into spring...

Is Winter Over Yet?

Looking back at last week, my outfits still feel distinctly 'winter': monochrome, knits, woolly textures... It may well have been the last week of 'proper' winter outfits - we shall see how this week pans out.

Worth mentioning: I really don't like the last outfit. Top doesn't work with skirt. And actually, I find the skirt too blah. And too similar to other skirts who do that look better. Will see if I give it one more go or give it the chop alongside some other items I've sent off to eBay or Depop.

Can't wait for spring - but it will mean no more black tights, so I will have to remember what to wear with nude ones...
I love this dress and don't think it will work without the black tights, so this might be its last outing...
Dress & boots: Zara
Necklace: Stella & Dot

I know: I keep showing you things that I pulled out of the back of my wardrobe but this skirt is actually new!
The picture doesn't do it justice, it's much more swishy. :)
Top: H&M
Cardigan: Boden
Skirt: Rumour London at Wolf & Badger
Necklace: Topshop

One day (when I think I won't lose my cool if Me G takes my pic) I will show you the back of this dress. Only by then I might have built it up to be something so wondrous that you'll be disappointed by the two tie-like appendices. "That's what she was on about?!" We shall see...
Dress: Jesire

And then there are the outfits that just don't really work... nothing terribly wrong but the skirt is blah, the textures grate on each other and there's no real detail of interest. Admittedly rushed in the morning (well, I always am) but back to the drawing board with this one...

A Week for the New

Back into the swing of things! Not only am I wearing a new dress and combining it with something that had been hidden in my wardrobe for years, I am also donning a pair of heels! Don't get used to it though, as much as I like how it looks, my poor feet and back just can't take them anymore...

Denim shirt and silk skirt
A very, very rare occurrence of me wearing heels. Well, I had to drive into work, so didn't mind carrying an extra pair of shoes. Had the skirt for years but not worn it yet as it just doesn't work that well with flats. And the belt was a last minute addition as the waistband of the skirt didn't sit quite right. A bit of an accidental outfit... :)
Shirt: La Redoute
Skirt: Zara
Shoes: Topshop
Belt: Reiss

All Saints dress and leather look leggings
I bought these leggings when those leather-look ones were all the rage and paired them with my new AllSaints dress. Too much?
Dress: AllSaints
Leggings: Topshop
Boots & necklace: Zara

Boden skirt and cashmere jumper
I think I can totally get away with wearing this spring/summer skirt in winter because the pattern contains a dark colour and doesn't clash too much with black tights.
Jumper & skirt: Boden
Boots: Zara
Necklace: Oliver Bonas

Boden tunic dress and Hallhuber boots
This is fast becoming my semi-casual go-to outfit. I just love grey marl tights when it's cold (instantly make me feel warmer) and this tunic dress is so easy to wear.

Slouchy Boot Week

Bit of a bumper week, with five (!) outfits posted. And I managed to hit my weekly objective of using an item that hasn't been worn for ages: the overknee boots. So five outfits and four pairs of boots - makes a change...

Warehouse jacket All Saints Mini Skirt Suede overknee boots
I've had these boots in my wardrobe for years and I rather like them. I think suede and slouchy is the way to go if you want to do thigh high boots in a classy way. Only problem is that one of them keeps slouching down - and the other one doesn't. Ah well, can't have everything...
Top: Hallhuber
Skirt: AllSaints
Jacket: Warehouse
Boots: somewhere in the back of my wardrobe... no idea where I bought them originally...

Mexx dress
This dark green plain dress with pleather trim and pockets (I love pockets in a dress, don't you just love pockets?!) makes this necklace really stand out. There actually used to be a chain strand on the necklace, which i had to chop off as it got hopelessly tangled up.
Dress: Mexx
Necklace: ZARA

Whistles dress M&S boots
Love this slouchy Whistles dress. It's only thin t-shirt material so I always layer over opaques and black long sleeve top. The Vivienne Westwood inspired boots work really well with it, I think.
Dress: Whistles
Cardigan: H&M
Boots: Marks and Spencer
Necklace: ZARA

Zara pleather dress Stella and Dot necklace
I'm so totally behind posting these! Normally not a fan of pleather (bit of a leather snob) but this one feels lovely - and it's animal cruelty free. Thought it might be a bit too much with the necklace but I must have had the most compliments that day I ever had on any outfit - and all from girls (which are the best kind of compliments if you like clothes).
Dress: ZARA
Top worn underneath: Next
Boots: Zara
Necklace: Stella & Dot

Jesire dress Zara necklace
A few things about this dress:
1. It's at least 6 years old.
2. It's from Jesire, a high street label that went bust in around 2011. Kate Middleton was seen wearing a few of their pieces soon after and there were speculations that it could be saved but it then just disappeared.
3. The print totally makes it. They had a simple grey one as well and when I tried that on it looked so "bla".
4. One of its nicest features is hidden: two long "scarves"/ kind of tie shaped thingies hanging down the back. I tried to capture them a few times but just can't.
5. I think this was the first dress/skirt with pockets I ever bought - and I was hooked.
So there, 5 things before 9 you really didn't need to know...

Unintentional Grace

If you have followed me for a while you might have seen me mention things around not editing photos, taking a few and picking the ones that I like most (or that are the "least bad").

After doing this for some time I still feel awkward posing. And then I sometimes proof myself right by thinking that the rushed and unplanned shots are the best. Like this first one, where my phone was about to die and I wanted to take a pic before changing out of my work outfit. Just two shots and that was it. Tried this again with another couple of outfits just days later and just couldn't get my whole body in. At all. How on earth did I do it?!

Totally reminds me of Kleist's Marionettentheater -

"Grace appears most purely in that human form which either has no consciousness or an infinite consciousness."

Not wanting to get too philosophical or deep over a flippin' outfit pic but just goes to show that not trying too hard can sometimes be the best approach.

The battery on my phone was about to die and I had no time for my usual 3 shots of outfit and details, so there.
Top: Boden
Skirt: Zara
Necklace: Stella & Dot

There's something about ribbed grey marl tights that makes an outfit feel cosy in an instant. Add a bit of pastel and it feels like the perfectly thrown together winter outfit with a nod to romance.

Two Print Skirts

I've somewhat fallen off the wagon and really need to get back into the outfit posting groove again. Just two outfit posts from last week and, surprise, they both feature print skirts and statement necklaces...

When you turn up at work and somebody else is wearing the same skirt - and she was in heels too. Made sure I didn't stand anywhere near her...

A bit thrown together as I was running late and the boots were a last minute adjustment after I saw rain was predicted.

New Print Skirt and Colour Necklace

Only three from last week (but hey: that's one more than the week before) but two new outfits and I have to say I'm rather fond of my new Boden print skirt and that necklace that Mr G brought back from Finland! Oh, and little M makes a guest appearance.

Still Not Spring Yet?!

I keep saying that winter is going, that it's spring now, that I'm going to ditch the winter clothes and get out my spring outfits - and then I keep reaching for the warmer and layered styles. Sigh. Let's see what happens next week...

End of Winter

Winter should be over by now, surely? I find myself reaching for the cosy/double layered/warm outfits that will probably be too warm once spring is raising the morning temperatures. Once that happens, I'll be phasing out the woollies and bringing in the thinner layers...

Outfit Catchup: Bumper Issue

As I was between jobs and off for almost a month, I completely fell out of my outfit posting routine. Partially because I simply didn't really wear anything particularly interesting but also because I generally slacked in re. to keeping my blog up to date during this time. One the upside, I sorted through all of little M's clothes, some of my stuff and managed to get a fair bit of tidying done.

Anyway, I started my new job and have not caught up yet, so this is what I've snapped so far this year.
